New exhibit additions:  circa 1854 Photo of Gertrude Onderdonk Schoonmaker and Nicholas Schoonmaker and their 3 children.  Gertrude was the daughter of Ann and Adrian Onderdonk who built the frame addition and lived in the Onderdonk House in the mid 1800's to the turn of the century. 

Spring & Summer Hours for the Onderdonk House, starting March 10!!! Hours for both Saturday and Sunday will be 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Hours for Wednesday will be 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Hours:   HOURS  - Saturdays & Sundays 1 - 5 PM, Wednesdays 3 - 7 PM.    History and Geneaology Resource Rooms are also open. Guided and self-guided tours available.  Suggested Donation $3.00 per person.  Members are free. Veterans and Active Service members are free. First floor and bathroom facilities are accessible for individuals with disabilities.  

EXHIBITS:  Richard Asbell has re-installed our permanent exhibit, “Unearthed at the Onderdonk House – Artifacts from the 1970's Archaeology Investigations” and added additional material including photos of the other colonial houses along Flushing Avenue.

"What is Archaeology?" - Exhibit on tools, methodology and GRHS archtifacts, in particular, stained glass from Louis Comfort Tiffany factory in Corona, Chrysalis Archaeology and Arianna Stimpfl, curators

"View from a Balloon" - Exhibit of Society archival maps, including 1871 Map of New York City and F.W. Beers maps of Newtown, Corona, Winfield, Queens and New Lots, Brooklyn.  

May 5, 6th, Saturday and Sunday - 2nd Annual New Amsterdam Festival.  12 Noon - 6 PM daily.  Food, Entertainment, Dutch culture, traditional Dutch market with local artists and merchants, crafts, games, self-guided tours of the Onderdonk House.  FREE.

July 7th – READING OF DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE, 12 AND 2 PM. Our own Charles Sanchez, Board of Directors member and Saturday Docent, will be reciting the Declaration.  Q&A on the history of the Flag.  Donation $5.00.
